Testarossa

Airflow shaped the body

The Testarossa moved Ferrari's flat-12 flagship into the wide-body 1980s without giving up a five-speed gate. Its side strakes are cooling hardware: they feed twin rear radiators and remove the Boxer family's hot cabin and front plumbing.

Overview

Paris, October 1984: the 512 BBi replacement revives a racing-era name.

Ferrari used Testarossa because the engine's cam covers were painted red. The road car arrived with four valves per cylinder, rear-mounted radiators and a body built around their airflow requirements.

Production ran to 7'177 before the 512 TR replaced it. That scale makes specification, colour, mileage and engine-out service history more important than rarity alone.
