The Speedtail returns the driver to the centre with two passengers behind, for distance rather than lap time. Its case rests on 106 numbered cars, a 1'070 PS hybrid system and McLaren's highest verified road-car speed claim.

Overview
A three-seat grand tourer at maximum speed
McLaren revealed the Speedtail in 2018 as its first Hyper-GT. The production number matched the total F1 series at 106, while the central driving position made the connection explicit.
Rob Melville's design team reduced cut lines and stretched the body to 5.14 metres. The hybrid system was calibrated for continuous acceleration rather than the P1's circuit use, reaching 300 km/h in a claimed 12.8 seconds.
Production began in the first quarter of 2020. Each car was specified with its owner through McLaren Special Operations, making colour, trim and factory options central to how surviving cars are compared.
