350 GT / 400 GT

The V12 starts here

Before its mid-engined cars, Lamborghini built a grand tourer around a four-cam V12. The 350 GT established Touring bodywork; the 400 GT added displacement and a rear seat. Aluminum-bodied 350s lead the market.

The ledger shows how specification can outweigh chronology: a modified but unrestored late 350 GT sold far below freshly restored, matching-body examples.

Price range · road · openConfidence · mediumPublic 350 GT results are documented, but restoration standard, aluminium-body integrity and drivetrain originality create a wide spread. The combined page also covers the more numerous 400 GT, for which the public sample is thinner.

Overview

A road car before a supercar

Ferruccio Lamborghini assembled engine, chassis and coachbuilding talent before he had a production line. Bizzarrini supplied the V12 concept, Dallara engineered the chassis, Stanzani adapted the package for the road and Touring turned it into a finished grand tourer.

The 350 GT entered production after its March 1964 Geneva debut. Lamborghini's current history gives 150 standard cars; auction catalogues variously cite lower totals, reflecting different treatment of prototypes, transition cars and special bodies.

The 400 GT arrived in 1966 with 3'929 cc, 320 CV and a full 2+2 cabin. Lamborghini records 250 built through 1968. It closed the first chapter before the Islero replaced Touring's rounded shape.
