Type 57 SC Atlantic

Four built, three remain

Four Atlantic chassis were made and three survive; one was reconstructed after a fatal crash. None has a transparent public-market price. Identity, original material and S or later supercharged SC specification are the file.

The only modern transfer was private and confidential. Reported numbers around it are not ledger evidence.

Price range · road · openConfidence · estimateNo surviving Atlantic has sold publicly with a fully disclosed and independently confirmed price. Gooding brokered chassis 57374 privately in 2010 but did not publish the amount; later factory and auction-house commentary ranges from more than $40 million per surviving car to about €100 million. The band is therefore an estimate, not a calculated market.

The missing chassis is not assigned a current market value here; Bugatti's statements above €100 million are hypothetical if it reappears and is authenticated.

    Overview

    From Aérolithe to Atlantic

Jean Bugatti's 1935 Aérolithe established the low roof, long bonnet and external centre seam. Between 1936 and 1938 Bugatti translated that experiment into four aluminium-bodied Atlantics on the short, low Type 57S chassis.

The name honoured aviator Jean Mermoz, who disappeared over the South Atlantic in 1936. Jean Bugatti retained the black second chassis as a works demonstrator; it vanished before the German occupation and has not been authenticated since.
