GT

The race car came first

Ford raced the GT before customers received it and won LM GTE Pro at Le Mans in 2016. Its V6, carbon tub and active aerodynamics are working parts. Specification, mileage and the complete allocation file matter as much as model year.

The documented RM result moved from $1.24 million in 2019 to $995'000 in 2025, but the two cars differ materially in colour, mileage and specification.

Overview

A Le Mans programme with number plates

A small Ford team began the project in 2013 under tight secrecy. The car appeared at the Detroit auto show in January 2015, with the race programme already aimed at Le Mans in 2016 — fifty years after Ford's 1966 sweep.

Ford and Multimatic developed road and race versions around a carbon tub, compact twin-turbo V6 and inboard suspension. The race car started competition before road deliveries and met the brief: first and third in LM GTE Pro at Le Mans in June 2016.

Road production started at Multimatic in Markham in December 2016. Ford first announced 1'000 cars across four years, then extended the programme to approximately 1'350 through the 2022 model year. Ford's published figure was a plan rather than a confirmed final build tally, so it is not presented here as an exact production count.

The application process and resale restrictions shaped the early market. Heritage liveries, Carbon Series cars and later 660 hp examples now trade alongside standard cars, making option records and original delivery material essential when comparing results.
