The record

Bugatti designer credited in the register for the Bolide and Tourbillon.

Frank Heyl joined Bugatti in 2008 after completing a vehicle-design degree at the Royal College of Art. He became Head of Exterior Design in 2014 and Deputy Design Director in 2019, contributing to the visual identities of the Chiron, Divo, Bolide and W16 Mistral.

In 2023, Bugatti appointed Heyl Director of Design, succeeding Achim Anscheidt. The register credits him as Deputy Design Director for the Bolide and as Director of Design for the Tourbillon.

Form follows performance

Heyl describes Bugatti's approach as deriving beauty from a vehicle's purpose, with performance setting the design requirements. He has also stressed that aerodynamic constraints must inform a car from the beginning rather than be covered by styling.
