Woolf Barnato

Bentley chairman and works driver credited with approving the Blower programme and sharing Speed Six victories at Le Mans in 1929 and 1930.

Barnato became chairman of Bentley Motors in 1926 while the company was short of capital. When W.O. Bentley opposed Tim Birkin's supercharger proposal, Barnato approved the project, enabling the 4½ Litre Blower programme credited in this register.

He drove a Speed Six with Tim Birkin to victory at Le Mans in 1929 and took his third Le Mans victory in 1930. In March 1930, Barnato completed the Blue Train run in a Speed Six, reaching the Conservative Club in London four minutes before the train reached Calais.
