Born in Leipzig on 19 March 1994, Kirchhöfer made his Formula ADAC debut in 2012. Driving for Lotus, he won the championship with nine wins and 329 points, ahead of Gustav Malja. He returned to Lotus (Motopark) for the 2013 ATS Formel 3 Cup, taking the title with 13 wins and 511 points in a Dallara F308-VW.

He raced in GP3 for ART Grand Prix in 2014 and 2015, finishing third in both seasons: one win in the first and five in the second. In 2015, Esteban Ocon and Luca Ghiotto placed ahead of him. He then competed in GP2 for Carlin in 2016, finishing 17th after 20 races and runner-up in Monaco’s sprint race, before moving to GT racing in 2017.

McLaren Automotive added Kirchhöfer to its factory-driver line-up ahead of the 2022 season. McLaren’s 2026 roster again listed him among its Factory Drivers, while GT World Challenge Europe records his Garage 59 McLaren 720S GT3 EVO programme in its Sprint and Endurance Cups.

At the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Kirchhöfer drove the Solus GT in the Timed Shootout. Goodwood described the car as still in development and reported the McLaren factory driver’s 45.34-second winning run.
