Rolls-Royce chief styling engineer credited in the register for the Bentley R-Type Continental and the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud and Silver Shadow.
John Blatchley joined Rolls-Royce in 1940 from London coachbuilder Gurney Nutting. He later became Chief Styling Engineer and developed the full-width body of the Silver Cloud, which entered production in 1955.
Blatchley created the broad concept and detailed design of the Silver Shadow. The R-Type Continental is attributed jointly to Blatchley and Ivan Evernden.
