Corniche

The four-seat coastal tourer

The Corniche turned the Silver Shadow's two-door body into a 24-year model line. Convertibles define demand; late Corniche IV cars sit above early examples. The 25 turbocharged Corniche S cars stand apart.

Late Corniche IV specification carries a visible premium over ordinary early cars in the cited sample.

Price range · road · openConfidence · lowThe cited public results establish roughly $36'000 to $42'000 for three 1970s and early-1980s cars in 2020–2021, and $104'500 for a 1993 Corniche IV in 2020. The band is indicative because condition, series and body style create separate markets, while current public volume is thin.

Overview

A derivative outlived the saloon beneath it

The two-door SY body began as a Silver Shadow derivative at Mulliner Park Ward. Rolls-Royce applied the Corniche name in 1971, keeping the 6.75-litre V8, automatic transmission, independent suspension and high-pressure hydraulic systems.

The fixed-head car left production in 1981. The convertible continued: Corniche II arrived in 1986, Corniche III in 1989 and Corniche IV in 1992, when production moved from Mulliner Park Ward in London to Crewe.

BMW Group Classic records 5'146 Rolls-Royce Corniche convertibles through 1995. RM Sotheby's cites 1'108 coupés. Published grand totals differ slightly, so body-style and series figures should be stated with their source rather than collapsed into one exact number.
