Philipp Schiemer

Mercedes-AMG chairman from August 2020 to March 2023, Schiemer was in office when the production AMG ONE premiered in June 2022 and when the 275-car customer series began that August. A 1984 Daimler dual-study recruit, he spent more than eighteen years in Brazil, including as Mercedes-Benz do Brasil chief executive. In April 2026 he joined the Abra Group board.

Born in June 1964, Schiemer entered Daimler-Benz in 1984 through the Berufsakademie in Stuttgart, reading business administration. Automotive Business reports that his first Brazil posting, in the early 1990s, was to launch the van line; he later listed himself as assistant to the sales vice-president, then head of dealer network and of MB 180 D light-commercial sales.

He later headed A-Class product management and, for four years, sales and marketing at smart GmbH, then became head of sales at DaimlerChrysler do Brasil in 2004. In 2009 he returned to Stuttgart as Head of Marketing for Mercedes-Benz Cars. On 1 June 2013 he succeeded Jürgen Ziegler as president of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil and that October signed the Iracemápolis car-plant contract, opened in March 2016 on the C-Class.

In February 2020 Daimler said he would leave Brazil on 1 June to head Daimler Buses sales and marketing. On 26 May that plan was replaced: he would become Mercedes-AMG chairman, with Jochen Hermann as technical director, both from 1 August. Mercedes later named him AMG CEO and Head of the Top End Vehicle Group and credited him with the Maybach and G-Class campaigns. In January 2023 it said Michael Schiebe would succeed him on 1 March.

The production Mercedes-AMG ONE premiered on 1 June 2022. Project ONE had been shown at the 2017 IAA, before his appointment. At the premiere he said the teams had been pushed to their limits making a Formula 1 powertrain road-usable, and that the car had passed all ECE tests. The August release said the first customer car had been built and confirmed 275 units, with powertrains from Brixworth and assembly in Coventry with Multimatic.

From 1 April 2023 he remained at Mercedes-Benz AG to set up Top End Customer and Community Management, then left that executive job in December after almost forty years. GOL had made him an independent director in April 2020; that board ended on 31 March 2026 when the listed company was merged away. On 1 April 2026 Abra Group appointed him to its board.
