Bologna-born founder of Carrozzeria Fantuzzi, whose workshop built Maserati A6GCS/53 bodywork and the aluminium body of the 420M/58 Eldorado.
Medardo Fantuzzi was born in Bologna. In 1927 he and his brother Gino joined Maserati as apprentices. VeloceToday reports that he took on racing-body work in the early 1930s; in the late 1930s the brothers formed Carrozzeria Fantuzzi in Modena. The workshop is listed as established in 1939.
VeloceToday’s excerpt from Ermanno Cozza’s Maserati at Heart says that Fantuzzi built the A6GCS/53 bodywork and that the idea came from Colombo. It says the car debuted at the Mille Miglia and won its class with Emilio Giletti. Club Maserati France describes the standard Fantuzzi Spyder as aluminium-panelled. Maserati records four Pinin Farina Berlinettas.
Maserati specifies that Fantuzzi hand-crafted the aluminium body of the 420M/58 Eldorado for the 1958 Race of Two Worlds. WhichCar credits Fantuzzi with building the 1959 Ferrari 250 TR body from Pinin Farina sketches. Ultimatecarpage identifies the Fantuzzi-designed 250 TRI61 driven by Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien to victory at Le Mans in 1961. Fantuzzi died in 1986.

Cozza’s account says Fantuzzi built the A6GCS/53 bodywork and attributes the idea to Colombo.
