# Droptail

Four roadsters, four commissions

Droptail is a four-car series on underpinnings developed only for it, not a Dawn derivative. Each car is a separate commission, so the factory file and the exact expression matter more than a generic model average.

2023 to present · 4 built · Goodwood

## The price and the proof

Indicative road-car band $22M–$35M. Modeled values are not observed sales. Nothing here is investment advice.

Confidence: estimate. No documented public sale was found and Rolls-Royce has not disclosed commission prices. The band rests on the existing catalogue reference, the four-car count and reports that Droptail commissions cost more than the already unconfirmed £20 million Boat Tail figure.

USD editorial estimate across four individually commissioned cars. Their specifications are not interchangeable.

### Documented sales

Every public sale on this file, newest first. Amounts keep the recorded currency. Source links appear only when the catalog stores a public auction-lot URL.

Empty ledger by design: reported commission prices are unattributed estimates, not verified public transactions.

## The third Coachbuild programme changed the architecture.

Sweptail retained Phantom VII foundations and Boat Tail reconfigured the Architecture of Luxury. Droptail went further: Rolls-Royce developed a separate mixed-material monocoque and mounted a contemporary V12 drivetrain within it.

The company announced four expressions. La Rose Noire appeared first at Monterey in August 2023, followed by Amethyst in Gstaad and Arcadia in 2024. Each uses the same roadster idea as a starting point rather than a common trim package.

Rolls-Royce has not published prices for the commissions. Public estimates above $20 million are useful only as context; none is a documented resale.

| Highlight | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| It is not a converted Dawn | Droptail uses a dedicated monocoque mixing steel, aluminium and carbon fibre. The structure was developed beyond Rolls-Royce's existing Architecture of Luxury. |
| The roof changes the body | Remove the carbon panel and the car is a strict two-seat roadster. Install it and electrochromic glass closes a low coupé roof without adding a folding mechanism. |
| La Rose Noire used 1'603 pieces | The first commission's interior parquetry contains 1'603 hand-finished wood elements. One craftsperson assembled the field in controlled one-hour sessions. |

## What moves the price

Spans are indicative, drawn from documented public sales. Calibrated multipliers for a specific chassis remain member instruments.

| Value driver | Indicative range | Meaning | Documentary evidence |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Named commission | +10% to +30% | La Rose Noire, Amethyst and Arcadia each carry documented materials and a separate patron brief; values cannot be assumed equal. | Factory reveal file and commission-specific build record. |
| Complete bespoke accessories | +5% to +15% | Commission-specific watches, chests and presentation objects are part of the delivered work where fitted. | Delivery inventory and matching serial documentation. |
| Altered craft surfaces | −10% to −30% | Repairing parquetry, exterior wood, plating or the one-off paint outside the factory process can change the commission materially. | Factory inspection against the original materials schedule. |
