## The RS moved Porsche's racing base back to the production 911.

A new 2.7-litre mechanically injected flat-six, lower weight and revised aerodynamics turned the 911 S platform into a Group 4 homologation car that remained road legal.

Porsche presented it at the Paris Motor Show on 5 October 1972. The planned 500 cars were sold by the end of November; further series took production to 1'580.

The name joined two lineages. Carrera recalled Porsche's class wins in the Carrera Panamericana; RS meant Rennsport. Both remained attached to Porsche's road-racing 911s thereafter.
