# 996 GT3 RS

The water-cooled RS begins

The 996 GT3 RS restarted Porsche's Rennsport line for the water-cooled era. Every car left the factory in Carrera White with red or blue graphics. Retained lightweight parts and accident history separate the market.

2003 to 2004 · 682 built · Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen

## The price and the proof

Indicative road-car band €250K–€400K · typical €310K · 1 documented road sales · 2 recorded sales on file. Modeled values are not observed sales. Nothing here is investment advice.

Confidence: medium. The ledger contains two documented European sales, but both were unusually low-mileage cars and one carried the Clubsport specification. Track history, repaired accident damage, original panels and registration market create a wider spread than mileage alone suggests.

Indicative band for correct, documented cars in Europe. Exceptional sub-500-kilometre examples can exceed it; repaired or heavily tracked cars can sit below it.

Public prices reward untouched lightweight parts and complete factory records.

## Rennsport returned after the GT3

The first 996 GT3 arrived in 1999. Porsche updated it in 2003 to 381 PS and 306 km/h, then used that base for a narrower homologation brief: the GT3 RS.

The RS stripped mass from glass, body panels and cabin trim, added adjustable suspension hardware and fixed its visual identity to white paint with red or blue details. It sat between a road GT3 and the competition-only RSR without pretending the two were the same car.

Published production totals were once inconsistent, but Porsche-market auction documentation now regularly identifies 682 examples. Individual histories remain more important than the headline count because many cars saw track use.

| Highlight | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| One colour, two scripts | Carrera White was mandatory. Wheels and side graphics came in Guards Red or blue, a direct reference to the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7. The restricted palette makes repaint quality and the correctness of decals and wheel finish unusually visible. |
| Weight, not more headline power | The RS used the 381 PS output of the contemporary 996.2 GT3. Its case rested on lower mass, revised suspension, wider tyres and aerodynamic load rather than a larger published engine figure. A carbon front lid and rear wing, polycarbonate rear window and reduced cabin trim are central to the specification. Replaced parts need to be identified rather than treated as ordinary wear items. |
| The first modern GT3 RS | Porsche introduced the car in 2003 to support the GT3 RSR competition programme and give customers a road-registerable track car. It was not officially sold new in North America. Market history and registration status therefore matter for cars now located there. |
