Porsche began development in 1994 by combining the twin-turbo 993 engine with RS body components and a rear-drive transaxle. The road-approved base car allowed customer teams to compete in production-derived GT racing. The 430 PS first series arrived in 1995. For the 1998 model year, output rose to 450 PS. Porsche's 2024 factory account gives 172 first-series cars and 21 second-series cars; auction catalogues often quote 194 road-going cars, so chassis-level registers should govern an individual claim. | Highlight | Detail | | --- | --- | | The front axle went first | GT regulations excluded the 993 Turbo's all-wheel-drive system.
