# 911 GT1 Straßenversion

Road paperwork, racing architecture

The 911 GT1 Straßenversion is a homologation car built by Porsche's racing department. Its engine sits ahead of the rear axle in a purpose-built chassis. Porsche's own publications count the road run differently.

## The price and the proof

Indicative road-car band $15M–$25M · typical $20M · 1 documented road sales · 1 recorded sales on file. Modeled values are not observed sales. Nothing here is investment advice.

Confidence: estimate. The public record is too thin for a high-confidence band. The verified ledger contains one GT1-98 Straßenversion sold in 2017; earlier cars and private transactions may not be comparable.

Sub-1'000 km cars are currently negotiated at US$23–25M; cars with 5'000–10'000 km changed hands at US$15–18M over the last twelve months (partner-reported).

A single public sale cannot describe this market. Generation, race-department records, road registration status and mechanical recommissioning determine whether two cars are genuine comparables.

## Porsche designed the racer first and built the road quota around it.

The GT1 regulations required a road-going counterpart. Porsche met that requirement with a small series assembled by the racing department at Weissach rather than adapting a production 911 chassis into a racer.

Road cars retained the twin-turbo engine, double-wishbone suspension, large brakes and six-speed transaxle, with road equipment and reduced output. Porsche quoted 544 PS, 310 km/h and 3.7 seconds to 100 km/h.

The programme culminated in the GT1-98 race car's overall Le Mans victory in 1998. Later road cars mirror that evolution, which is why a catalogue entry must distinguish an early Straßenversion from a GT1-98.

| Highlight | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| The engine moved forward | The flat-six sits ahead of the rear axle. Headlamps and roof language connect it to the 911; the load paths and weight distribution come from the racing brief. |
| Built inside Motorsport | Weissach's racing department assembled the road cars. The production line, mechanical architecture and service demands are separate from a contemporary 993 or 996. |
| One name, three bodies | The 1996 car carried 993-style lamps, the 1997 Evo adopted the coming 996 face, and the GT1-98 used a further-developed carbon body. Market evidence must name the version. |
