Customer demand prompted a track-only concept shown at Pebble Beach in 2014 and the production car at Geneva in 2015. The timing marked twenty years since the F1 GTR's Le Mans win. Production started after the 375th road P1 left the line, and available slots were restricted to existing P1 owners. McLaren delivered 58 cars with a supported driving programme. Some later gained road conversions, creating a second specification group that should be identified explicitly in research and valuation. | Highlight | Detail | | --- | --- | | The road rules came off | Without homologation constraints, McLaren widened the front track, fixed the suspension, fitted slicks and replaced the road P1's moving rear wing with a larger fixed element. The wing retains a drag-reduction function. Together with the revised front bodywork it adds about ten percent more downforce than the road car while giving the driver a stable aero platform on circuit. | | A car sold with a programme | P1 GTR ownership originally included events at Formula 1 circuits, simulator access, driver coaching and McLaren technicians assigned to the car. That history now matters. A file showing programme use, factory support and scheduled maintenance is evidence of correct operation, not a negative in itself. Long static storage can be more expensive than documented track mileage. | | Road conversion is a separate state | Lanzante converted a number of GTRs for road registration. Those cars can be used more widely but no longer represent the untouched track-only configuration.
