# F1 LM

Le Mans engine, road plates

The F1 LM is the unrestricted road derivative of the 1995 GTR. Five customer cars exist, plus the XP1 LM prototype. True LMs trade too rarely for a public sale series; factory-converted LM-specification F1s are different cars.

## The price and the proof

Indicative road-car band $25M–$40M · typical $32M · 1 documented road sales · 2 recorded sales on file. Modeled values are not observed sales. Nothing here is investment advice.

Confidence: estimate. No documented public sale of one of the five true customer F1 LMs was found. This estimate rests on the $25.3 million 2025 result for an F1 with High-Downforce and LM-interior upgrades, the $19.805 million 2019 result for a factory LM-specification F1, and the LM's much smaller production run. Those comparables are not true LMs.

Editorial USD estimate only. Chassis identity, originality and uninterrupted documentation would dominate any transaction.

Public market references usually concern standard F1s or the two later LM-specification conversions. Private LM transactions rarely disclose price.

## A production response to one race

The F1 was not conceived as a racing car. Customer demand produced the GTR, and McLaren entered Le Mans in 1995 with a lightly adapted version of the road platform against purpose-built prototypes.

The Lanzante-run number 59 won overall on debut. Four more F1 GTRs finished, giving McLaren five classified cars from seven starters and the basis for the LM road derivative.

Five customer LMs followed, alongside the retained XP1 LM prototype. Later, McLaren converted two standard F1 road cars to LM-engine and Extra-High Downforce specification; auction catalogues correctly identify those as LM-specification F1s, not as members of the five-car LM run.

| Highlight | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| Five finishers, five customer cars | McLaren built one customer LM for each F1 GTR that reached the finish at Le Mans in 1995. The winning car led a first, third, fourth, fifth and thirteenth result. The five-car production count excludes XP1 LM, the development prototype kept by McLaren. Provenance work should begin with that distinction and with the LM chassis identity, not merely orange paint or a later High-Downforce conversion. |
| The GTR engine, unrestricted | The 6.1-litre V12 came from the 1995 GTR but without racing intake restrictors. Output rose to 500 kW, or 680 PS, at 7'800 rpm. McLaren paired the extra output with less mass and road gearing. It is not the same specification as a standard 627 bhp F1 with only the High-Downforce body package. |
| Downforce costs speed | The fixed wing and GTR-derived nose add stability and drag. McLaren quotes 225 mph, below the standard F1's derestricted record but with a different purpose. A period test recorded 0 to 100 mph in 6.7 seconds and 0 to 100 to 0 mph in 11.5 seconds. The LM was built around acceleration, braking and circuit load rather than a maximum-speed run. |
