# F1 GTR

Road car, Le Mans winner

Customers asked McLaren to race a road car that had not been designed for racing. The first F1 GTR arrived at Le Mans in 1995 with less power than the production F1 and finished first, third, fourth, fifth and thirteenth.

## The price and the proof

Indicative road-car band $15M–$35M · 1 documented road sales · 1 recorded sales on file. Modeled values are not observed sales. Nothing here is investment advice.

Confidence: estimate. Only one verified public F1 GTR sale was found in the reviewed sources: Longtail 21R at Gooding in 2014. The present range is an editorial estimate informed by later F1 road-car results, current public offering levels and the large provenance spread between GTR chassis.

Figures in USD. Specification, race history, originality, road conversion, livery and factory or Lanzante documentation can outweigh model-level averages.

## A customer race programme became an outright winner.

Ray Bellm and Thomas Bscher pressed McLaren to prepare the F1 for the 1995 BPR Global GT Series. Gordon Murray's team added the cage, revised the suspension, steering, brakes and aerodynamics, and completed the programme in months.

At Le Mans the Kokusai Kaihatsu Racing car, wearing Ueno Clinic colours and driven by Yannick Dalmas, JJ Lehto and Masanori Sekiya, won overall. McLaren then evolved the GTR through nine 1996 cars and ten 1997 Longtails, for 28 chassis in total; customer teams continued racing the type in 1998.

| Highlight | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| Less power than the road car | Regulation intake restrictors held the 1995 GTR below the production F1's 627 PS. The racer gained its time through lower mass, slick tyres, quicker steering and larger brakes. |
| Le Mans on the first attempt | Seven GTRs started the 1995 race. The Ueno Clinic car won overall; four more finished third, fourth, fifth and thirteenth after sixteen hours of rain. |
| The body changed with the rules | The 1997 GTR was not a trim update. New long bodywork, a 6.0-litre racing V12 and a sequential gearbox made it a separate technical specification. |
