# F1 GT

The road-going Longtail

McLaren lengthened the F1 to homologate its 1997 GT1 racer, then built one prototype and two customer road cars. It kept the central seat, manual gearbox and unrestricted 6.1-litre BMW V12.

## The price and the proof

Indicative road-car band $20M–$32M. Modeled values are not observed sales. Nothing here is investment advice.

Confidence: estimate. No documented public F1 GT auction sale was found. The range is an editorial estimate anchored to public McLaren F1 and factory LM-specification results, then adjusted for three-car scarcity; the two customer GTs trade, if at all, privately.

Figures in USD. Chassis identity, factory condition, service history and McLaren documentation would dominate any transaction.

### Documented sales

Every public sale on this file, newest first. Amounts keep the recorded currency. Source links appear only when the catalog stores a public auction-lot URL.

The empty ledger is deliberate: private-sale commentary without a disclosed price is not a market observation.

## A rule change lengthened the F1.

The F1 GTR won Le Mans in 1995 and the BPR titles in 1995 and 1996, but purpose-built GT1 opposition changed the problem. For 1997 McLaren developed new long bodywork and a sequential racing transmission; homologation required a road equivalent.

McLaren built three F1 GTs: the development prototype 56XPGT and customer chassis 054 and 058. The same programme produced ten 1997 Longtail GTR race cars. No F1 GT has a documented public auction result in the sources used here.

| Highlight | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| Homologation without the rear wing | The GT gave McLaren the long body needed for the 1997 F1 GTR. The road car relied on its tail shape rather than the racer's high rear wing. |
| One prototype, two customers | McLaren retained prototype 56XPGT. Chassis 054 and 058 were the only customer F1 GTs, making this the smallest production branch of the F1 programme. |
| The road engine stayed unrestricted | The GT retained the 627 PS road-car S70/2. The 1997 GTR used a 6.0-litre racing derivative, intake restriction and a sequential gearbox. |
