Its name refers to the McLaren-Elva M1A, M1B and M1C customer racers, but the new car uses the Senna family's 4.0-litre V8 and carbon structure. The production ceiling changed during the programme. The final numbered series stopped at 149, and some markets could specify a factory windscreen in place of the active air-management arrangement.
