## The 3500 GT became smaller and more formal

Maserati showed the 3500 GTI Coupé S at Geneva in 1962. It used the shorter 3500 GT Spyder chassis and a new 2+2 steel body drawn by Giovanni Michelotti for Vignale.

The first series paired the 3.5-litre straight-six with Lucas injection apart from four Weber-equipped cars. Power windows, optional air conditioning, an automatic gearbox and Borrani wire wheels addressed the American grand-touring market.

Series II arrived during 1965 with revised lamps, vents and bumpers. The original 3.5-litre engine remained available beside 3.7- and 4.0-litre units from the Mistral; production tailed off as the Ghibli entered the range.
