Confidence: estimate. Two documented USD sales show a wide spread: $231'000 for a restored, original-engine GTI in 2016 and $106'400 for a preserved carburetted GT in 2023. The band is an estimate because body integrity, injection completeness, engine identity and restoration standard dominate sparse public volume.

Touring coupés only. Vignale Spyders, one-off coachwork and celebrity provenance are separate markets.

A visibly presentable car can sell far below estimate when the market discounts preservation needs. A correctly restored GTI and a patinated GT are not direct substitutes.

## The road car that paid the bills

Maserati presented two 3500 GT proposals at Geneva in March 1957. Touring's aluminium-bodied 2+2 was selected for production, and the first cars left Modena late that year.

The company withdrew from factory racing and directed its limited resources toward the GT. Alfieri adapted the 350S six; ZF, Girling, Salisbury and other established suppliers provided systems that Maserati did not need to engineer alone.

The specification evolved in production. Front disc brakes appeared as an option in 1959, a five-speed gearbox followed in 1960, and Lucas mechanical injection created the 235 hp GTI in 1961. Production ended in 1964 after turning a low-volume marque into a road-car manufacturer.
