## A chassis shown before its body

Dallara, Stanzani and Wallace developed a compact mid-engined chassis while Ferruccio Lamborghini's company was still selling front-engined GTs. Bertone received the package, and Marcello Gandini drew the body around its transverse engine and low roof.

The finished Miura debuted at Geneva in March 1966. Lamborghini's current history records 265 P400s, 338 P400 S cars and 150 SVs, plus specials. Other published totals differ because prototypes, transition cars and factory conversions are not counted consistently.

The SV arrived in 1971 as the most developed regular version. Production ended in 1973, after the Countach had already shown where Lamborghini's V12 flagship would go next.

| SVJ is a separate question | Lamborghini records four SVJs derived from Bob Wallace's Jota prototype. Later factory conversions and cars described with Jota-style parts complicate the label. An SVJ claim requires chassis-specific factory evidence. Ordinary SV auction results do not value a documented Jota-derived car, and a Jota-style restoration does not create factory provenance. |
