## A road car before a supercar

Ferruccio Lamborghini assembled engine, chassis and coachbuilding talent before he had a production line. Bizzarrini supplied the V12 concept, Dallara engineered the chassis, Stanzani adapted the package for the road and Touring turned it into a finished grand tourer.

The 350 GT entered production after its March 1964 Geneva debut. Lamborghini's current history gives 150 standard cars; auction catalogues variously cite lower totals, reflecting different treatment of prototypes, transition cars and special bodies.

The 400 GT arrived in 1966 with 3'929 cc, 320 CV and a full 2+2 cabin. Lamborghini records 250 built through 1968. It closed the first chapter before the Islero replaced Touring's rounded shape.

Correct aluminium panels, matching mechanicals and documented restoration work carry more weight than an otherwise glossy presentation. |
| One engine, two characters | The 350 GT uses the 3.5-litre V12 at 270 CV. The 400 GT enlarges it to 3.9 litres and 320 CV, with more torque and a Lamborghini-built gearbox. The later car is the more practical grand tourer. The earlier car is the purer first statement: lighter bodywork, unusual 2+1 seating and the direct link to Lamborghini's 1963 prototype programme. |
