## The price and the proof

Indicative road-car band $750K–$1.2M · typical $950K · 7 documented road sales · 7 recorded sales on file. Modeled values are not observed sales. Nothing here is investment advice.

Confidence: medium. Six documented USD auction sales from 2009 to 2023 anchor the band, with a 2024 RM Sotheby's sale at €736'250 as a cross-check rather than an FX-converted ledger entry. Alloy-body authenticity, chassis history, original specification and restoration quality can move an individual car outside it.

Indicative band for documented, alloy-bodied road cars. Iso A3/C racers, Corsa cars, Spyders, America variants, recreations and modern Revival cars are separate comparables.

Public results rose from the low-$400'000s in 2009 to $1'010'800 in 2015, then settled between $775'000 and $915'250 in the two latest documented USD sales. The thin market makes individual history more important than a smooth trend line.

## Iso origins, then a name of its own.

Iso showed two Giugiaro-designed Grifos at Turin in 1963. The A3/L was the road car; Bizzarrini's Livorno consultancy built the lower A3/C for competition, placing Chevrolet's 327 V8 behind the front axle in a fabricated platform chassis.

Bizzarrini and Iso separated in 1965. The engineer continued the A3/C idea under his own name as the 5300 GT Strada for the road and Corsa for competition. Current Bizzarrini material credits Giorgetto Giugiaro with the form and Piero Drogo with refinements.

Production ended with the company's collapse in 1968. The surviving record is untidy: Bizzarrini currently cites some 133 cars across Strada, America and Corsa, FIA research cites 124 at closure, and auction houses commonly identify 86 alloy Stradas. Unfinished chassis, later assembly and reconstructed cars make expert inspection part of the asset.

| Highlight | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| The engine sits behind the axle | The Chevrolet small-block is pushed behind the front axle rather than hung over it. The result is a front-mid-engine car with near-even weight distribution, not an Italian body wrapped around a conventional American drivetrain. Iso history records that the engine moved roughly 40 centimetres rearward; a hatch in the dashboard gave access to the distributor. The layout dictates the long nose and puts the heaviest component inside the wheelbase. |
| Every chassis needs its own file | Alloy or glassfibre, De Dion or independent rear suspension, Dunlop or Campagnolo brakes: specification changed during a short, financially unstable production run. The strongest cars come with factory paperwork, period photographs and a report from a recognised marque specialist. A generic model description cannot settle identity, body material or original configuration on an individual 5300 GT. |
| A road car from the A3/C | The Strada came from the Iso Grifo A3/C programme, whose competition cars won their GT class at Le Mans in 1964 and 1965. Bizzarrini kept the low body, the rear-set V8 and the semi-monocoque construction when the car took his name. The 1965 class-winning Corsa is not a Strada sale comparable. It is the engineering parent: the distinction matters when a competition history, conversion or continuation car enters the market. |

## The people behind the car

### [Giotto Bizzarrini](https://hiconium.dev/people/giotto-bizzarrini)

Founder and chief engineer · Bizzarrini

![Portrait of Giotto Bizzarrini](https://hiconium.dev/images/cars/bizzarrini-5300-gt-strada/people/giotto-bizzarrini.jpg)

Developed the Iso Grifo A3/C, carried its front-mid-engine layout into the 5300 GT and built the car in Livorno under his own name after the split from Iso.

Chassis architecture and competition development are the car's primary provenance.

### [Giorgetto Giugiaro](https://hiconium.dev/people/giorgetto-giugiaro)

Body designer · Bertone

![Portrait of Giorgetto Giugiaro](https://hiconium.dev/images/cars/bizzarrini-5300-gt-strada/people/giorgetto-giugiaro.jpg)

Drew the low Grifo A3/C form that became the 5300 GT while working at Bertone.

The nose, roofline and cut-off tail remained legible through changing coachbuilders and specifications.

### [Piero Drogo](https://hiconium.dev/people/piero-drogo)

Body development · Carrozzeria Sports Cars

Refined the A3/C-derived body and built early riveted aluminium shells in Modena.

Drogo-built details and period body evidence materially affect how an early car is judged.
