# A wrong fact costs more than a missing one

Authority is won or lost at the top of the market. This page is the house method in the open: what a file contains, the documentation it must clear, where coverage honestly stands, and the rules that decide what may touch a number.

01 · What a file contains

## Four layers, one chassis

01

### Identity

Chassis number, engine, specification as built — the facts that make this car this car, each carrying its source on the record.

02

### Provenance

Owners, sales, restorations, awards and moves, in order, with documents behind them. History that cannot be traced is marked as exactly that.

03

### Condition

Inspections and expert reports, bound to the chassis and dated — condition is a reading with an author, never an adjective.

04

### The number

The market layer: documented results, the spectrum over comparable sales, and the confidence the record can actually carry.

The reference is the [F40 file](https://hiconium.dev/vehicles/ferrari/f40): 26 documented sales, a census, and every layer above in one place.

02 · Documentation standards

## The bar a record must clear

- Every material fact carries its source on the record — a document, a named archive, a dated inspection. Unsourced claims stay off the file.
- Photography meets the house standard: consistent angles, honest light, no retouching that changes the car. Images are records, not advertising.
- Documents are filed as originals — immutable once entered, superseded rather than overwritten, so the file’s history is itself documented.
- Gaps are written down. A missing decade in a chain of ownership is stated on the page, because a confessed gap is information and a hidden one is a defect.

03 · Coverage & gaps

## Where the record honestly stands

| Label | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Manufacturers on file | 62 |
| Models documented | 219 |
| Sales in the F40 ledger | 26 |

Depth over breadth, deliberately: one car — the F40 — is documented to the standard every file will reach, and the catalogue grows toward it manufacturer by manufacturer. Where a model’s record is thin, its page says so; a stated gap is a work order, not an embarrassment. What is not on the platform is not claimed.

The reference

## One car carries the whole method

The F40 file holds every layer this page describes — 26 documented sales, a build board, the census work and the instruments above them. Every file in the catalogue grows toward it.

04 · How we verify

## The rules that touch the number

Review is not an editorial afterthought; it is a product with rules. These are they, in full.

01

### Chassis first

Records are built on the individual chassis, never on the model in general. Every material fact carries its source on the record.

02

### Estimates disclose their basis

A reasoned estimate shows its anchor comparable, its adjustments and its cross-checks on the page. If the basis cannot be shown, the estimate is not published.

03

### Specialists at the top

Above defined value thresholds a named specialist source is mandatory; at the very top, two independent sources — or the record is flagged for manual verification, and shows it.

04

### Auction data is weighted, never raw

Results enter with source-trust weights. A manipulated result does not move the number.

05

### Research feeds ranges, bids make prices

Research values feed HICON-INDEX ranges only. A published HICON-PRICE comes exclusively from the live engine on real, score-weighted bids — a one-off launches with a disclosed estimate basis and a confidence score, never a fabricated price.

＋

### The partners who verify

Manufacturer registries and archives, factory heritage departments, race archives, long-standing historians, restorers’ build files and our registered experts. Verification work is credited visibly on the record — [bring an archive onto the layer](https://hiconium.dev/partners#restoration).

05 · Glossary

## The vocabulary, pinned

| Label | Value |
| --- | --- |
| The file | A vehicle’s complete record on the platform: identity, provenance, condition and market layer for one chassis or one model. |
| Chassis record | The per-vehicle ledger everything binds to — documents, moves, inspections, awards, sales. |
| HICON-PRICE | One exact, evidence-backed value per chassis — never a range. Published only where the record and the rules below can carry it. |
| HICON-INDEX | The research layer: documented results and reasoned ranges per model, with disclosed bases. |
| HICON-BID | Sealed bidding by verified members whose buying power matches the asset. Bids are never public. |
| HICON-SCORE | A member’s documented standing — grows with what the member puts on the record, and unlocks what standing earns. |
| The spectrum | Quantiles over comparable sales, adjusted for condition, history and specification — the honest shape of a model’s market. |
| Confidence | How much weight the record can carry. Thin ledgers make wide spectra, and the figure says so. |
