Former Mercedes-AMG chairman and chief executive; head of overall vehicle development at the SLS AMG Black Series launch

The record

German automotive engineer and executive who led complete vehicle development at Mercedes-AMG before becoming its chairman and chief executive in 2013; Piëch Automotive’s current site identifies him as its CEO.

Born in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1966, Moers completed a mechanical-engineering degree as a Diplom-Wirtschaftsingenieur at Hochschule Offenburg. He joined Mercedes-AMG in 1994 in development positions, assumed overall responsibility for the main AMG model series in 1999, led complete vehicle development from 2002, and joined the company’s executive management in 2011.

Mercedes-AMG appointed Moers chief executive effective 1 October 2013, succeeding Ola Källenius. In May 2020 Daimler said he would leave at his own request to become Aston Martin Lagonda’s CEO on 1 August. He left Aston Martin’s board in May 2022 and remained through July to support the transition.

Mercedes-AMG unveiled the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series in November 2012. Its launch text identified Moers as head of overall vehicle development and a management-board member; it did not credit him as the car’s designer. The text quoted him on AMG Lightweight Performance, a DIN kerb weight of 1,550 kg—70 kg below the SLS AMG—and new engine, transmission, suspension and aerodynamic work.

### Complete-vehicle responsibility

Mercedes-Benz said Moers had been in charge of complete automobile development since 2002. The Black Series launch in November 2012 therefore preceded his 1 October 2013 appointment as Mercedes-AMG chief executive.

### Lightweight as a brief

On the Black Series, Moers tied the 1,550 kg DIN kerb weight to AMG Lightweight Performance and identified new work in the engine, power transmission, suspension and aerodynamics.
