The Braunschweig commercial register appointed him managing director of Bugatti Engineering GmbH in February 2024. Bugatti’s August 2019 coachbuilding release described Rommelfanger as the 42-year-old head of one-off/few-off projects, saying he had worked for Bugatti for 14 years, with breaks. It said he oversaw the special vehicles from initial idea to presentation. The release also described an organisation of up to 20 employees responsible for the rare vehicles, reporting regularly to President Stephan Winkelmann. An August 2018 article on Bugatti’s Divo teaser series identified Rommelfanger as project leader. Bugatti’s April 2020 Divo release called him project manager for limited edition models and quoted him on the early-2018 aim of an agile, corner-hungry car. The same release says a small expert team began development and that the first models were being delivered after nearly two years. Bugatti’s 2019 coachbuilding release described an internal idea tested with selected customers, with each project required to fit the company’s strategy rather than a purchaser’s request. Autocar reported that Rommelfanger’s team gathered feedback from important customers but chose the projects itself; it said he ruled out client requests. These sources describe programme management, not vehicle-design authorship. Bugatti’s 2021 releases identified him as Head of Coachbuilding Projects for La Voiture Noire and Head of Overall Vehicle Development for the Divo and Centodieci. Its July Divo release said the final, 40th car was leaving Molsheim and quoted him that every small series received the development of a larger production run. In February 2024, the Braunschweig register appointed him a managing director of Bugatti Engineering GmbH, alongside Rico Kreyenberg. ### House-led specials Autocar reported that Rommelfanger’s team gathered feedback from important customers but decided internally what to build, so each one-off or few-off project fitted Bugatti’s strategy rather than a collector’s brief. ### Independent of the Chiron Bugatti quoted Rommelfanger that a newly created vehicle had to stand on its own as an independent model. Its 2019 coachbuilding release says this drove changes to lamps and the front and rear sections. ### Series-level development Bugatti’s July 2021 Divo release quoted Rommelfanger: “Each small series undergoes the same degree of development as would a larger production run.” A separate June release said La Voiture Noire underwent two years of development and testing so it could be approved.
