The record

BMW engine engineer credited in the register for the M88 in the BMW M1 and the S70/2 V12 for the McLaren F1.

Rosche joined BMW in 1957 and became head of design for the BMW M1 production and racing engines when he moved to BMW Motorsport GmbH in 1975. BMW Group Classic identifies him as the engine designer among the specialists involved in the M1 programme.

As Technical Managing Director of BMW Motorsport GmbH, he led the M12/13 Formula One engine project from 1980. The register also credits him as engine architect for the McLaren F1's S70/2 V12, whose core parts BMW M says were constructed anew for the car.

### Camshaft calculation

BMW records that camshaft calculations for sports engines were Rosche's preferred field, earning him the nickname 'Nocken-Paule'.

> “It must have been around 1,400 hp; we don't know for sure because the dyno didn't go beyond 1,280 hp.”
