The record

Jaguar aerodynamicist and body designer credited for the D-Type body and aerodynamics retained by the XKSS.

Sayer studied aeronautical and automotive engineering at Loughborough, then worked on Bristol aircraft before joining Jaguar in 1951. His Jaguar work used calculated curves and aerodynamic principles rather than conventional styling practice.

Jaguar identifies Sayer as responsible for the D-Type's aerodynamics, while the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust describes the bodywork as calculated by hand and refined in wind-tunnel testing. The Trust says the tail fin was developed for high-speed stability at Le Mans.

### Calculated bodywork

Sayer used mathematical plotting and wind-tunnel work to shape Jaguar racing cars. Jaguar describes the D-Type as an application of his principle that form followed function.
