The record

Josef Lenz's Bavarian engine-management firm, documented in sport auto's 1991 account of Lenz's software work for Lotec engines and in MOTORRAD's 1996 report on Ducati catalyst conversions.

sport auto's July 1991 profile called Josef Lenz a Bavarian computer specialist and said he had applied his software knowledge to high-powered, chiefly turbocharged Lotec engines. It also reported that he had programmed 850 PS for Peter Stürtz's modified BMW Formula 1 turbo in a sports prototype, while Stürtz was aiming for the IMSA series.

The same report located Lenz's workshop in Kirchseeon near Munich and named Dieter Schey as his mechanical partner on a BMW 535i. It said the car used a Bosch Motronic reprogrammed by Lenz. In 1996 MOTORRAD listed Lenz Motorentechnik GmbH at Hauptstraße 45–47 in Kirchseeon, offering controlled three-way catalyst conversions for Ducati 748 and 916 models.

Lotec's published Sirius specification lists "Motor-Management: LENZ Turbo-Tronic, www.lenz.de" for its twin-turbo Mercedes 6.0-litre V12. It gives 1,000 hp at 0.85 bar and 1,200 hp at 1.20 bar. A period directory listing for Lenz Motorentechnik GmbH gives the same website, linking the company to the name shown on the specification.

### Map-based ignition

In 2025 Kurt Lotterschmid recalled that he and Josef Lenz developed their own map ignition. He described it as boost- and temperature-dependent and self-programmed.

### Ducati control unit

MOTORRAD reported in 1996 that Lenz Motorentechnik's Ducati 748 and 916 catalyst conversion required a new engine-management control unit and a modified crank-speed sender.

### TurboTronic specification

Lotec's Sirius specification names LENZ Turbo-Tronic as its motor management and publishes two boost/output settings: 1,000 hp at 0.85 bar and 1,200 hp at 1.20 bar.
